Cholatse peak climbing

Cholaste peak climbing is popularly known as Jobo Lhaptshan. It is one of the most stunning and remarkable peak climbing in Nepal for adventure seeker, with an altitude of 6440m. Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has opened Cholaste peak climbing and this peak is an A group Mountain under 7000 M and due to its features this mountain is usually compared with mountains above 7000 M. The main attraction of the peak climbing is that the climber will get an opportunity to explore rural lifestyle of local people as well as witness the unique cultural and natural scenarios of Khumbu region. During the trek and after submit to cholaste peak, climber will get wonderful views of snow-capped mountain vessel including Mt. Everest, Nuptse (7879m), Lhotse (9501m), Lhotse Shar (8383m), Makalu (8475m), Baruntse (7720m), and Ama Dablam (6856m) Thamserku 6623 m, Cho-Oyu and many more other peaks. It lies in Mahalangur Himalayan range In the Khumbu region of Solukhumbu district in Nepal.

With its narrow snow ice ridge and step faces situated at the Khumbu region of the high Himalayan range in Nepal, Cholaste Peak Climbing is full of fun and challenges. It lies on the ridge that separates Gokyo and Khumbu valley. Cholaste peak is connected to Mt. Taboche (6501m) by its long southern ridge. In the east side of the pass there is a small lake named “cho”, “ la” is a pass “Tse means Peak so Cholaste literally means “Lake Pass Peak”, those unique name is derived from the Tibetan Language. Vern Clevenger, Galen Rowell, John Roskelle and Bill O’Connor were the first to successfully climb the peak from the southwest ridge on April 22, 1982. And Peter Hackett successfully climbed Cholaste peak from the north face in 1984.

How difficult for the Cholaste climb???

Cholaste peak climbing is one of the technically challenging and extremely tricky peak climbing in Nepal in comparison to other peaks. So very few climbers have successfully summited the peak. Climbers are expected to have climbing skills, climbing to ice and rock along with rope skill, for cholate climb. Due to its unique feature, there is no effortless way to reach or descent from its top. So the climber of that mountain must be very serious about climbing responsibilities.

Cholaste climbing is on the edge unraveling the Gokyo valley, just northern side of Tengboche with the same range of Cholaste at the North and east faces of Cholaste can be visible from Dughta, on the way to Everest base camp trekking trail. So it can be exciting to the adventures people who seek adventure in peak climbing.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Kathmandu

Upon your arrival at the Tribhawn International airport, Kathmandu our representative from Alfresco Adventure Travel wait for you outside at Arrival gate with your Name card. Our team will welcome and collect your baggage at the airport. By formal introduction with the representative and transferred to your hotel. . In the evening you will enjoy complimentary welcome dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant with Nepalese cuisine. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2

Sightseeing around Kathmandu Valley and Pre trek Preparation

After breakfast, Our representative will meet you on the hotel brief about the preparation of climbing have a short time gathering with your trekking guide and support staff and coordinate any last-minute arrangements. After the staff meeting, one of our professional tour guides will take you on a sightseeing trip and then back to the hotel. Rest of the day can be used for traveling around Thamel and buying any last minute equipment and other necessities.

Day 3

Flight from KTM – Lukla. Trek to Phakding (2,652m).

After breakfast at hotel you get transmit to an airport in Kathmandu to catch the flight to Lukla (2,800m) where from our trek starts. The 35 minutes flight to Tenzing- Hillary airport Lukla is in dramatic landscape and surrounded by high mountains peaks. We meet our other porters in Lukla then we manage some arrangements, we begin our walk to Phakding for 4 hours then we stay at the lodge.

Day 4

Trek to Namche Bazaar

Beginning with a slight climb to Jhorsalle, the trail passes a waterfall. All day, we pass villages interspersed with magnificent forest- rhododendron, magniolia trees and giant firs. And on the way to walking you will be rewarded (weather permitting) your first glimpse of Kusum Kanggru (6369m) Thamserku (6608m) Everest (8848 m) and Nuptse (7879 m). A steep climb up to the beautiful village of Namche bazaar (3440m).

Day 5

Acclimatization Day

Higher the altitude, thinner the air! You need to gain altitude slowly and steadily so that we get enough time to acclimatize in route. Today, you hike to Syangboche village, just above Namche and return back to Namche to spend the rest of the day.

Day 7

Trek to Phortse Thanga

Leave Namche along the direction of the gompa and turn right afater the large rocks engraved with Buddhist images.The trek climbs the hill to Khumjung and descends to the valley of Dudhkoshi and arrives at Phortse Thanga (3,500m) which offers superb views of Thamserku(6,608m), Kangtewa.

Day 8

Trek to Machermo

This will be another short day trek to aid acclimatization to the altitude.The path goes through the middle of forest and offers the first view of Cho you peak (8,153m), working , through rhododendron forest and juniper and large conifers appear as the elevation increases making the trekking beautiful in spring. The trail passes through kharkas and summer settlements to Dole after that, we will work across a rocky terrain scattered with a few dwarf rhododendrons. Staying overnight at Machermo at (4,410m).

Day 9

Trek to Gokyo Lake.

Today we head for the holy lake at Gokyo following the picturesque trail to Pangka (4,545m) and we descend slightly fallowing one of the hostile fed streams which flows down the west of Ngozumba Glacier. After that ascend a vertical stony dispose into the gorge by the surface of the glacier crossing the first lake soon arrives the second lake. Crossing the path which heads across the glacier to the Cho-La (An additional rough path to Lobuche and further than to Everest Base camp) looming to the third lake known as Dudh Pokhari and on its east coast is the summer residence of Gokyo at 4,760m height. On foot by the side of the lake, the panorama is wonderful with the lake of Cho-Oyu and Gyachung Kang mirrored in its bright green water.

Day 10

Gokyo Lake explore around

The excursion to the Gokyo peak usually starts early in the morning. The climb is quite steep first 30 minutes; it will take you an hour to reach the top with its traditional prayer flags. From where you will have a magnificent view of highest peaks, from the west to east are Cho you (8,153m), Gyachung Kang (7,922m), Everest ( 8848 m), Lhotse (8,501m) and further way Makalu, On the way to descent you can enjoy, superb view of Gokyo Lake.

Day 11

Trek to Chola Phedi.

Day 12

Trek to Chola La pass to Jungla (Dzongla).

Day 13

Trek to Cholatse Base camp.

Day 14

Climb to cholats peak 14 to 23 climbing period

Day 24

Trek from Base Camp to Pangboche.

Day 25

Pangboche to Namche.

Day 26

Namche to Lukla.

Day 27

Flight from Lukla - KTM, transfer to hotel.

Day 28

Kathmandu free day, evening culture show with Nepali dinner, hotel
