Cultural tours and Sightseeing involves to places of interest in the Kathmandu valley, primarily to ancient religious sites of the two main religious: Buddhism and Hinduism and to the four cities of the valley founded at various times from before 3rd century B.C. and the 9th Century A.D. established by the Malla rulers at the peak of their ascendancy in the 17th century in which condition they remain today. Tours take you to different small but ancient places and places of beauty out of Kathmandu Valley into remote places of Nepal. Description of different sites, to see few itineraries.
Kathmandu:

Popular legend has it that Goddess Manjushree, an incarnate of Lord Buddha, was responsible for carving out the Kathmandu valley with one swipe of her sword. Be it true or a legend the result was a spectacular setting which has brought forth endless praises from the pens of the great poets of Nepal. Surrounded by mountains and hills, Kathmandu today is a hustle and bustle of a city which Manjushree would hardly recognize as her own handiwork. Situated at an altitude of 4'423 ft. above the sea level and covering an area 218 sq. miles, it is a place that has been a source of fascination to visitors over the years.

Sightseeing in Around Kathmandu valley

Boudhanath : The stupa of Boudhanath lies 8 km east of Kathmandu. This ancient colossal stupa is one of the biggest in the world. It stands on an octagonal base inset with prayer wheels and ringed by houses of lamas or Buddhist's priests. Build by king Manadeva at the advice of goddess Mani Jogini. It has four pair of eyes in the four cordinal directions keeping watch for righteous behavior and human prosperity.

Swyambhunath Temple (Monkey Temple) :Said to be 2000 years old, this Buddhist stupa, located4km/2.5 miles west of Kathmandu city. The main structure is composed of a solid hemisphere of brick and earth supporting a lofty conical spire capped by a pinnacle of copper gilt. On the four sides of the spire, is the all seeing eyes of lord Buddha.

NagarkotNagarkot : Nagarkot is a popular tourist resort of Nepal. It is situated 32km/22 miles east of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2175 m above sea level. The panorama of the major peaks of eastern Nepal Himalaya including Mt. Everest can be seen from here. It is also very famous for sunrise and sunset viewing.

Dhulikhel : Dhulikhel is an ancient town which is situated 30 km east of Kathmandu on the side of the Kathmandu - Kodari highway at an altitude of 1600m/3500 feet above sea level. It is also popular in viewing sunrise and sunset. Once an important link in has a glorious past which can be seen in the lovely buildings and intricate wood carvings in the shop-lined streets and temples. Pleasant climate (even during summer) is big attraction at Dhulikhel.

Pokhara Valley

Pokhara Machhapuchhre ViewPokhara, the second largest city of Nepal nestled in the tranquil valley(827m) above from sea level, is the starting point for many of Nepal's most popular trekking and rafting destinations. It is situated 210 km west of Kathmandu. This Pokhara valley, The most picturesque natural attractions in the Kingdom of Nepal. It is a rare combination of the long arrays of snow clad peaks, crystal clear lakes, Phewa, Rupa and Begnas , turbulent rivers with deep gorges and the picturesque villages inhabited by the simple and friendly ethnic people. Rising behind the Phewa lake is the magnificent Machhapuchhre meaning the fishtail, 6977m, the archetypal Snow-capped, needle-pointed mountain. The other most stunning sight of Pokhara is the spectacular panorama of the Annapurna range. The Annapurna massif includes Annapurna ( I to Iv ) which streches from east to west and the Annapurna south. Mt. Annapurna lies at a horizontal distance of 40 km. From n the valley of Pokhara, which is at an elevation of 900m. Pokhara is known for the world famous view of the Himalayas.

Pokhara ValleyThe climate of the Pokhara is favorable all the year round. It is neither to cold nor too warm. Besides the three lakes, the places to visit in Pokhara are the old Bazar, Devi's fall the Seti Gorge, the cap factory, Mahendra Cave and the new market. If one has time, one can hike up to Hyangja or Sarankot.
Pokhara is accessible by road as well as by air from Kathmandu.It takes 6-7 hours by road and 30 minutes by air from Kathmandu. Due to pleasant climate and good accessibility, Pokhara is enjoyable throughout the year.

Lumbini Pilgrimage Tour 

Lumbini TourSituated 232 km from Kathmandu. It is the birthplace of lord Buddha, the apostle of peace, compassion and non-violence. He was born here in 543 BC. The sacred Grove where he was born converges on the Ashoka pillar, which carries an inscription identifying the spot as the birth place. The broken Ashoka Pillar, remnants of an old monastery and images of Buddha's mother Maya Devi are still preserved here. Recent excavation has revealed stone bearing foot prints indicating the exact place of birth. The Puskarani Pond where queen Mayadevi had taken a bath before giving birth to the Siddhartha lies nearby.

Lumbini TourWith International support, Lumbini is being developed as the supreme Buddhist pilgrimage and a symbol of world peace. Many countries have built and are building temples, monasteries and stupa near the sacred garden in the International monastery Zone as part of the global initiative to promote Lumbini. The shrines reflect the architectural tradition of the respective countries which gives Lumbini an "International feel" and in hence it's message of universal friendship and brotherhood.

To the west of Lumbini lies Tilaurakot, the palace area of King Suddhodhan, father of Lord Buddha. Buddha spent 29 years of his life here. Many archeological ruins and findings make the visit worthwhile.

Lumbini is accessible by air from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa and from there one has to proceed by road which takes 30 minutes to reach there. From Kathmandu, It takes 8 hours to reach Lumbini by road .

Gorkha 

Gorkha DurbarGorkha is situated at a distance of 144km/90 milds north west of Kathmandu city. It is the birthplace of King Prithvi Narayan Shah the great, The founder of modern Nepal. Situated on a hill overlooking the snowy peaks of the Himalaya is a beautiful old palace known as Gorkha Durbar. There are two attractive temples of Gorakhnath and Kali inside the palace precinct. Gorkha can be reached in about 5 hours by road from Kathmandu and 4 hours from Pokhara. A side trip to Manakamana Temple on the way to Gorkha is very enjoyable and interesting.

 

 

 

 


 

Pilgrimage tour of Manakamana and Muktinath Temple

Manakamana  is a sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhist. It situated 12 Km south of the historic town Gorkha overlooking the river valleys of Trisuli (South) and Marsyangdi (West) is 1302m. (4270 ft).

Since centuries Manakamana Devi has been widly believed to fulfill the wishes of her devotees so she is called the wish fulfilling deity. It offers spiritual views include deep valleys, terraced fields and Manaslu-Himalchuli and Annapurna ranges. In the past, the only access to the region was by arduous climb of over five hours but one can now visit the shrine in comfort byManakamana Cable car with green hills scenery. A visit to this temple makes a dream come true.  

Programme Highlights:

Day 01 : Arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport,  Kathmandu – Pick up from Airport- Hotel  check in then ready for the Kathmandu Valley  city sightseeing. Visit Pashupatinath Temple then Swoyambhunath Temple. Evening Back to Hotel & Rest.

Day 02 :Kathmandu– Drive to  Mankamana Temple, 2.5 Hours (Rope way- one of the Longest Ropeway line in Asia) . This Goddess Temple is very famous and also known as the Goddess of Fulfillness. Then dive to Chitwan National Park, Sauraha. Reach Saurahaaround  5 Pm. Evening local sightseeing tour. Evening Tharu Cultural Programme & Dinner.

Day 03: Early in the morning, wake up and Elephant Back safari, then breakfast. Drive to Pokhara . It takes around 4 Hours. Pokhara   Hotel check in. Evening sightseeing Tour.

Day 04 After breakfast, Pokhara to Jomsom  by flight. Hotel check in inJomsom, then take a Jeep to the Muktinath Temple. It Takes around 1.5 hours drive, Worship at the Temple of Lord Vishnu, This temple is situated 3800M from the Sea level. Then same day, drive back to Jomsom. Hotel Check in and rest.

Day 05: After breakfast, take a Flight Jomsom to Pokhara. Same day, drive back to Kathmandu. Evening time Hotel check in and rest.

Day 06 :Kathamndu Valley again Sightseeing. Visit Budhanilakantha Temple &patan, Then shopping. Free and easy time.

Day 07 : After Breakfast, Departure for your onward journey.

Buddhist Cultural Tour:

As the Birth-place of Lord Buddha, Nepal is the holiest place for the Buddhists from all over the world. Buddhists can visit as a pilgrimage and pay the homage to all the Buddhist Shrines in a short period having started from  Lumbini, the Birth-place of Buddha and the world Buddhist Centre, the monasteries constructed by several Buddhist countries from all over the world, Bouddhanath, the considered biggest stupa of the world which fulfills the desire of everybody according to the Tibetan Buddhism, Swoyambhunath, the most ancient stupa of the world, Patan, the city of arts and crafts with hundreds of Buddhists monasteries and shrines, and Namo Buddha where in the past life, Buddha has offered his flashes to an old tigress and her calves, including many Tibetan monasteries wherever you want to visit.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu

Arrival in the Kathmandu airport (TIA), we will be greeted by a representative from Alfresco Adventure and transfer to hotel .we will be discussing about the trek in details. In the evening we will organized a welcome dinner at Nepalese restaurant with traditional style and food. Overnight at hotel.

DAY 02:  Visit Boudhanath, Some Monasteries at Boudha & Kapan Monastery 

Today we pay our visit to Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world and an important Buddhist pilgrimage. The unique octagonal Mandala design with hundreds of prayer wheels and the 108 images of the Buddha set into the niches around the huge structure.  The area of Boudhnath is also famous for over 50 Tibetan Gompas or monasteries, the also being known as the 'Little Tibet'.  The Kapan Monastery at Kapan Hill, a few kilometers higher north from Boudhanath is also known as Nepal Bouddhist Mahayan Centre.  Kapan Monastery follows Gelug tradition of Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism under the guidance of Lama Zopa Rinpoche. There is also a nunnery nearby the main monastery, known as the Khachoe Ghakyil Ling Nunnery, home to about 400 nuns.visit soyambhunath. Overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara

We make a 6-hour drive to Pokhara and transfer to hotel. In the afternoon we visit to some Buddhist sites there. Overnight at Pokhara.  

DAY 04:  Pokhara: World Peace Pagoda, Malepatan Gumba, Hyangja Tibetan Refugee Camp

Today we visit some Buddhist landmarks in Pokhara and also enjoy the nature's majesty. The massive Buddhist stupa of World Peace Pagoda was constructed by Buddhist monks from the Japanese Nipponzan Myohji organisation on a narrow ridge high above Phewa Tal. Besides being a cultural monument, the site is also famous for the panoramic view it offers of the Pokhara Valley. We cross the Phewa Lake on a boat and then hike to the Stupa. Then we will visit the Malepatan Gomba or monastery at Malepatan. Then we make another hike to Hyangja, the site for Tibetan refugee camp who fled Tibet after the Cultural Revolution in China. You may try the Tibetan variety of foods, bargain for curios, and at the same time acquaint yourself with the Tibetan culture. There is the Tashi Palkhiel monastery in the tradition of Karma Kagyu tradition. Overnight at Pokhara 

Day 05: Drive to Lumbini

We drive to Lumbini - about 290 kilometers south-west from Pokhara which takes for about 6-7 hours to to reach flat lands of Nepal's Terai., Lumbini is the most important Buddhist pilgrimage site - the place where Buddha was born. In case we reach Lumbini around the sunset time, we can stroll in the local market to have a glimpse into the local lifestyle. Overnight at Lumbini.

DAY 06:  Full Day Explore Lumbini

Lumbini is one of world's major religious, architectural, and historical places. We devote today's time in visiting as many places and sites in Lumbini as possible. The place is really a big area with monuments, temples, and ancients sites making it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. First we visit the Mayadevi temple which is built on the exact place where Buddha was born. We spend some time wandering around the gardens. We also visit the museum and peace pagoda. Some of the important landmarks and monuments in Lumbini include: Ashoka's Pillar erected by Emperor Ashoka (249 BC) on the spot of Buddha's birth which also has the oldest inscription in Nepal. There are many Buddhist Temples founded by the devotees from different countries:  Tibetan, Chinese, Japanese and Burmese, Korean, etc. Overnight at Lumbini

Day 07: Drive back to Kathmandu

We head back toward Kathmandu - about 300 kilometers journey into the winding mountain road. The journey would take for about 6-7 hours. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to hotel. Spend the leisure time on recreation or shopping. Overnight at hotel.

Day 08: Depart Kathmandu

Approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight a representative from Alfresco ADVENTURE  will transfer you to the airport for your destination.

Day 05 : After breakfast drive to Lumbini (the birthplace of Lord Buddha), sightseeing,

Day 06 : Drive to Pokhara, rest in hotel. Evening Walk with boating in Phewa Lake and back to Hotel

Day 08 : Fly back to Kathmandu, drive to Nagarkot, overnight at hotel

Day 09 : Early in the morning we take you to the sunrise view point, where you can view Mt. Everest to Dhaulagiri Range. after breakfast we drive back to Kathmandu Hotel, overnight at hotel.

Day 10 : Transfer to airport for your onward destination.
