Nagarkot Dhulikhel Trek

Nagarkot Dhulikhel Trek is known as a Kathmandu valley rim trekking too. It is short time duration, easy walking but eagerly looking for panoramic mountain views from a close distance, culture experience and beautiful paddy terraces which will be the best choice. It’s even not so far from Kathmandu we can easily reach only a half an hour driving by a private car to the starting point of trekking. It takes just 45 minutes’ drive back to Kathmandu from ending point of the trek at Dhulikhel.
Nagarkot is one of the best sunrise viewpoints near Kathmandu valley an altitude of (2175 mtr.), Shivapuri National park, Sundarijal water drain, Mulkharka Nepal Army camp and Nala as well as Chisapani one of the great mountain viewpoint village are the main features of Nagarkot Dhulikhel trekking. One can enjoy having great experience of flora and fauna too. One night hotel experience in Nagarkot and a simple mountain lodge experience in Chisapani is another combination of experience of mountain trekking. Nagarkot Dhulikhel Trek is made through unspoiled old growth forests of oak, rhododendron, and beech. Spot deer, monkeys, and jackals are seen along the trail. The trek goes through many beautiful villages.
Major Attractions of the Nagarkot Dhulikhel Trek is old trade route between India and Tibet and its Centre town called Sankhu of around 1st Century, You will see the local farmers and cultivate /farming field with seasonal crops. You experience the village lifestyle, the great Himalayan Range including Everest (Top of the World 8848m), Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Gaurishankar, Dorjelakpa and the sunrise over those mountain ranges.

Nagarkot is located on eastern part of Kathmandu at Bhakatapur district on an altitude of 2000m our trek starts from Sankhu. It is 22 km distant from Kathmandu.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Drive to Sakhu and hike to Nagarkot from Kathmandu

After breakfast drive from hotel to Sankhu an origin point of the hike by the private vehicle around 9 am. Sankhu is small old town dated in 1st century surrounded by the four entrance gates and used for the different purposes from centuries to till now. Our trek Start from Sankhu the hiking trail is passing throw great farming field, green landscape hill, pine forest and local houses and the Sacred Hindu River called Salinadi. It takes approximately 04 hours walking to reach hill top of Nagarkot where the last part is up. We take Lunch on the way. Overnight in the Hotel in Nagarkot 2170 m.

Day 2

Early morning observe sun rise and Hike to Dhulikhel

In the second day of our trekking Wake up early in the morning to Enjoy Sunrise view over the great Himalayan Ranges on 180 degree including Everest 8848 m. and others as Langtang, Gaurishankar, and Ganesh Himal and so on. Breakfast in the Hotel after the breakfast we start our hiking assenting down through the forest and different small beautiful Villages .In this day you will enjoy the Pack Lunch. Overnight stay in the Hotel in Dhulikhel.

Day 3

Early morning breakfast with sunrise views and Drive back to Kathmandu

Enjoy Sunrise over the Himalayan Range again. The view of Everest closer from here than from Nagarkot and after breakfast drive back to Kathmandu. Trek from Dhulikhel to Namo Buddha and then to Panauti takes approximately four and a half hours and thereafter drive from Panauti to Kathmandu for about one and half hours. From Dhulikhel, the trail gradually ascends to Namo Buddha (1750m), one of the four important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Kathmandu Valley. Afterwards trek from Namo Buddha on a level trail all the way to Panauti. Panauti is an ancient Newari town featuring Goddess Kali Temple. And then drive back to Kathmandu.
