Tamang Heritage Trail

Tamang heritage trail is an exciting trekking destination in Langtang region and located on close proximately from capital city Kathmandu. Untouched northern Langtang valley is recently developed trekking trail into Tamang Heritage trail langtang. For the prospect to develop and promotion of rural tourism and contribute on unchanged rural lifestyle of Ethnic Tamang community.

Heritage trail langtang offers off beaten track experience with a traditional lifestyle of ethnical community indwellers to the hilly region in Nepal. Trekking trail has a unique history of trade route bartering in salt and meat of Chyangra (mountain goat) with foodstuffs between Tibet and Nepal. Heritage trek is one of the short and exclusive trekking destination to this region those who have limited time duration, and willing to experience the real splendor of Nepal. Where the trail is easy for the trekker's, No need to require highly physical condition. During the trek, the traveler explores off beaten trail, unique lifestyle of Tamang community with the rich ancient tamang and tibetan culture and primordial way of life . Most of the people in these regions are inhabited Tibetans, migrate from Kerung the border side of Northern Nepal.


Tamang heritage trail itinerary leads to the different small and beautiful Tamang village Goljung, Gatlang, Chilime, Thuman, Timure and Briddim. Those small villages are reached in Tamang ethnicity and traditions which are similar to the Tibetan culture just across the border. It is also popularly known as trail of Black village. They have their different custom, tradition, and languages, which make the destination incredible. Along the trekking, trail traveler feels lifetime experience on observing isolated Tamang villages, unspoiled and virtually untouched culture, life, crafts, and nature.

While you reach the village local people heartily welcome by warm hospitality as like “Guest is God”. Those families represented from different monasteries, Chortens, stupas and main way. In the village, most of the houses were well managed and decorated with local material and stunning woodcarvings.

Tamang Heritage trail offers breathtaking scenarios of scenic green landscapes of Alpine terrain hill, flat meadows, flora, and fauna like Pine, Oak and Rhododendron forests, Bears, Leopards, Red Panda, and Musk Deer and many more. Beside that the heritage trail rich in incredible Himalayan range with scenic views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung (7,225 m), and the Gosainkunda range (4,300 m).


Tamang Heritage Trail trek ends at Briddim which lies on the lap of Langtang Himal. It offers warm Tamang hospitality at the home-stays run by local community members. In addition, visitors can also visit local monasteries of Dukchu Gomba (monastery) chosen as a sacred site by the great Tibetan Lama – Guru Rinpoche and Chukla Khnaga Gomba.

Tamang Heritage trail trek is origin from both points either Dhunche or Syabrubesi. It will take around 7-8 hr. to reach their. And it is also one of the gaetway for other trekking destination in Langtang like, Langtang Valley Trek helambu trek and so on. Off-road drive makes our first-day journey quite an adventure and makes more interesting along the highway with the different human settlement, valleys, farming land and forest. Tamang heritage trail itinerary may end back in Syabrubesi or follow the Langtang trek from Briddim village via Khanjim.

Goljung and Gatlang are traditional Tamang villages. While Goljung has an ancient monastery, Gatlang set high on a hillside among terraced fields is the Tamang settlement with 700 households were on the close at one place. You can visit a Tamang monastery and the beautiful Parvatikunda Lake, which is located at Gatlang. One can also see a magnificent view of Lantang, Kerung, and the Ganesh Himal, Sanjen Himal ranges from the viewpoint at Bahundanda near the village.

After the trek of several days, bathing in the hot, healing waters of the natural spring at Tatopani in route from Gatlang to Chilime is an exhilarating experience. At Brimdang homestay is run by the local community, where you can get a good chance to experience local culture. Nagathali is surrounded by beautiful views of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal and Sanjen Himal range in Thuman VDC. Nagthali has been popular because of the meditation center for the local monks and priests. Next village Timure is one of the oldest trade routes or center to Tibet. Rasuwagadi in Timure is historical evidence of the Nepal-Tibet relationships that have existed for many centuries. A suspension bridge here links Nepal and Tibet.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Kathmandu

At your arrival at a Tribhawn international airport, Kathmandu our office representative from Alfresco Adventure Travel wait for you outside at Arrival gate with your Name card. Our team will welcome and collect your all baggage at the airport. By formal introduction with the representative, you will be transferred to your hotel. Our representative will brief on your arrival about the preparation of trekking have a short time gathering with your trekking guide and support staff. In the evening you will enjoy complimentary welcome dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant with Nepalese cuisine. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2

Kathmandu sightseeing and pre trek preparation.

After breakfast, our office representative and your trekking guide will meet you on the hotel and discuss about all programs and coordinate any last-minute arrangements. After the staff meeting, one of our professional tour guides will take you on a sightseeing trip and then back to the hotel. Rest of the day can be used for traveling around Thamel and buying any last minute equipment and other necessities.

Day 3

Kathmandu to Syabrubesi

Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi which takes about nine hours. You head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi passing through Dhunche. While passing along the road at the bank of Trishuli River you catch a glimpse of Ganesh Himal, terraces and green hills. As you pass through Dhunche you feel as if you are heading towards deep land. At the same time, you notice that the road is still under construction

Day 4

Syabrubesi to Gatlang(2238m)

Trek from Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2238m.) via Goljung and it takes about six hours. While trekking you experience of the Tamang culture. You can see scenery from view point. This day you walk through village. The cultural show at Goljung and Gatlang makes your trekking a memorable one. Gatlang set high on a hillside among terraced fields is a Tamang settlement. One can visit a Tamang monastery and beautiful Parvatikunda Lake at Gatlang.

DAy 5

Gatlang to Somdang(3500m)

Trek from Gatlang to Somdang (3500m.) which takes about five hours. You walk along the graveled but motorable road. Though there is a possibility of regular transport plying in the future, you will not get it now. While trekking, you can enjoy the spectacular mountain views of Langtang Himal ranges, Ganesh Himal, Paldor peak and many other unnamed mountain and peaks. You pass some Tamang villages where you can have a close observation of their culture and tradition. Somdang is a Tamang village. There you find zinc mines.

Day 6

Somdang to Chilime

Trek from Somdang to Chilime and it takes about six and half hours. To reach Chilime, you pass several Tamang villages, streams, green hills and terraces. There is a Hydro Electricity Project at Chilime.

Day 7

Chilime to Tatopani(2607m)

Trek from Chilime to Tatopani (2607m.) which takes about six hours. On the way, you enjoy sightseeing of Langtang range and Ganesh Himal. At Tatopani which naturally signifies 'hot water', you can take hot bath in natural hot springs with bathing areas in the lap of the mountains. It is believed that taking a dip into this spring would heal you from your aches and pains. This day's trekking provides you an opportunity to experience of the Tamang culture.

Day 8

Tatopani to Thuman (2338m)

Trek from Tatopani to Thuman (2338m.) via Nagthali (3165m.) and it takes about five hours. You trek via Bimthang. En route you can encounter animals like monkeys and deer. The panoramic view of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal, Sanjen ranges can be distinctly experienced from Nagthali. Nagthali used to be a popular meditation center for the local monks and priests. Another cultural village Thuman is popular for its Shamanic performances and beautiful view of Langtang. Beautiful view of the mountains can be seen from every house in Thuman.

Day 9

Thuman to Timure (1762m)

Trek from Thuman to Timure (1762m.) which takes about five hours. While trekking from Thuman to Timure you can visit nearby historical Rasuwagadi. This day's trekking grants you an opportunity to observe Tibeto Burman Tamang culture on the two villages on the way. Timure is on the old trade route to Tibet. A fort here is a historical reminder of the Nepal Tibetan relations that has existed for many centuries. A suspension bridge here links Nepal and Tibet.

Day 10

Timure to Briddim (2229m)

Trek from Timure to Briddim (2229m.) and it takes about six hours. You can experience the village life of Briddim. Moreover, you can enjoy a cultural show performed by community members. You can also experience home stay and Tamang culture. To mention about Briddim is a Tibetan Buddhist village in the bosom of Langtang Himal. Around 43 houses are spread in Z shape. Most of the houses are made up of stone and have roofs of split shake. As the direct descendant of ancient Tibean immigrants, the culture and tradition of Briddim closely resemble that of nearly Tibetan villages.

Day 11

Return trek to Syabrubesi.

We follow the Bhote Kosi River on the left side of the valley to the north and then return on the opposite side. Passing through paddy and corn fields we finally descend to our campsite at Syabrubesi.

Day 12

Return back to Kathmandu from Syabrubesi.

It’ll take 6-7 hours of ride to get back to Kathmandu. Once reached, you’ll be transferred to your hotel; and in the evening we will share a complimentary farewell dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant with Nepalese cuisine. Overnight at hotel.

Day 13

Final Departure

Today is your last day with us in Nepal. You will escort to the airport for your onward destination with the unforgettable moment of your life from the wonderful Langtang Valley Trek. Our office representative Alfresco Adventure Travel came at your hotel for pick up and drop you at the airport.
