Volunteering in Nepal is a wonderful way to gain some experience and give back to society. Volunteering will not only help the concerned community, but it will also help you gain experience in your field of choice and learn about a new culture and language. It can also serve you the purpose of working holiday as the moments spent in a beautiful place like Nepal will be no less than a holiday.

Volunteer and Homestay Program:
Are you interested in having a unique experience in Nepal or do you know someone who is? We provide a volunteer and homestay program for motivated individuals from all over the world to share their skills and experience with our organization. In return, we provide you with the opportunity to work in a local Nepali NGO, live at the Home or with a family and have a “local” experience.

We can also assist coordinate weekend tours to nearby places such as the Monkey Temple, Durbar Square, Patan, mountain monasteries, Boudha, trekking, and others.

1) Volunteering Teaching in Gorkha.

Gorkha is situated 150 Km far from the Capital city of Kathmandu. There are easy accesses of roadways to reach the main city of Gorkha, but our volunteering area, Bungkot is 17 KM far from the city & gravel road links to the village with jeep or buses.

School Name for the Volunteering:

  • Rameshwory Secondary School, Bungkot -09, Gorkha.

Features of the School:

  • School has approximately 350 students (Grade I to X)
  • 50 % Girls & 50% Boys, All are Day Scholars, live with their parents.
  • School main buildings have collapsed due to the earthquake of 25th April 2015.
  • 10 minutes walking distance from the Bungkot (Pioneer) Home Stay.
  • Temporary rooms are only available for the student’s tuitions.
  • Toilets, Sports materials, grounds, Science Lab, School offices and Library are in weak conditions.
  • Teaching methods are in Nepalese Medium, except English Book.
  • 14 permanent Teachers, fully paid by Nepal Government, 2 are temporary teachers, paid by school management.
  • volunteering need for English Teaching, Sports teaching, Health, Social and environments, Computers classes etc. Volunteers also assist and help for the student discipline learning, health awareness, socio-cultural exchange of his/her country & Nepal. Besides these, Volunteers can interact with Parents, Teachers as well as students about their lifestyles, culture, traditions.
    Process for Admission:

Admission Fee: US $50 per person (This amount will go to the Pioneer Foundation - Nepal to support their social project)

Cost/Charge for Volunteering:
Per Day volunteering: US $ 25 per person per day (This will include, lodging, food, volunteering fees in Schools and local transportation in/out to Gorkha from Kathmandu)

Duration: (Min - 1 week, Max as per your choice):
You have to sign up for a minimum of one week to 10 days volunteering to teach. But if you could do more days for volunteering in School, it would always be perfect. You could sign up for 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 1 month or more volunteering teaching in this school, but you have to confirm your timeline of volunteering beforehand.

Details for the Food and Accommodation:
On your volunteering program, lodging will be at our “Bungkot (Pioneer) Home Stay, Gorkha”. So it is an experience to live together with families, which gives you antique opportunity to enjoy, explore and interact with the local peoples, their lifestyles and culture. You will get one double/Twin Bedded or Triple bedroom for your staying in volunteering and toilets are outside in the yard. The shower will be cold at outside in bathroom yard. You could buy water heating rod (it is available in Kathmandu or in Gorkha and take it with you for a hot bucket shower). We will also provide you with hot water in the Bucket upon your request.

Food: You will have basic food. As it is a village, you would not have much choice of western food (But you could buy some noodles, spaghetti, cheese etc. and take it with you).

Breakfast: Choice of any eggs, Tea or coffee and biscuits (Sometimes Bread and butter/Jam)

Lunch/Dinner: Nepali Food (Dal Bhat) which is combined with plain rice, lentil soup, potato’s curry/cauliflower curry, Gundrek Sadeko (Kimchi) or pickle etc.
While on Volunteering teaching in school, you will have an opportunity to see how a school is running, discussion about teaching difference in your country and in Nepal, interact with local peoples, teachers, and school management, paying sports with school children's.

Optional/Extra Activities:
Milking cow/buffalo, visit rice field, fishing in the pond, visit cultural villages, historical areas such as Martyr Bhimsen Place or Budi - Gandaki Sattle (Old temple at the riverbank of Gandaki River etc.), or day hiking in around other villages etc. with local guides. Also available other schools for the volunteering nearby this homestay. Ramche School, 25 minutes & Dahale Primary school, 30 minutes in walking distance.

Fund Raising/Additional support to School:
This volunteering program is a basic program that we have developed for you to visit to rural school and do volunteering teaching and the cost charged to you is only for a required lodging/food/school exp. for your staying during the trip. However when you will be there, as school was fully damaged from earthquake and they almost have no good set up of anything in their school (We initiating fundraising to this school for basic support to assist them), school always have expectation from westerners to get more support on their school, thus it is always a best to assist school from your side to enlighten them more from your visit.
You could campaign for fundraising for their school for making science laboratory, library making, buying cupboards, tables, chairs, teaching posters, digital teaching DVDs etc. or assisting on sports such as, buying footballs, volleyballs and nets, badminton, table tennis, cricket etc.
We know that fact that everyone could not do much, but you may assist on anything that you could to support them on your trip to their place. You could even do very small support such as, buying some sports materials, buying colors and pencil or textbooks or examination copies etc., which do not cost more than US $100-¬ $200 but this would also make them feel very good!
If you want to support anything, you could buy each and everything in Kathmandu to take with you or you could also buy anything in their district headquarter which approx. of 4 hours walking from the school.

2) Volunteering Teaching in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu is the Capital city of Nepal, which is more developed to compare of the other cities in Nepal, but besides of this Metropolitan city, there are many rural areas & many schools, which are owned by Government, but having lack of education systems, lack of many infrastructures.
School Name for the Volunteering:

  • Shree Krishna Secondary School, Chandragiri -02, Dahachok, Kathmandu
  • Shree Mangoladaya School, Thankot, Kathmandu.
  • West Point School, Thankot Park, Kathmandu (Private Boarding School)

Features of the Schools:

  • Shree Krishna Secondary & Mangoladay schools have Approximately 300 & 350 Students. West Point School has more than 1400 Students, Having Boarding facility (Grade I to X)
  • 50 % are Girls in each school
  • 20 KM far from the Kathmandu International Airport, 11 KM far from the Thamel, It is just 25 minutes’ drive from the Thamel & 40 Minutes’ drive from the International Airport. Our Volunteers Home stay is in Dahachok, Khahare Bus Park. Schools are located 10 – 15 minutes walking distance from the Volunteer’s Home Stay.
  • Toilets, Sports materials, grounds, Science Lab, School offices and Library are in weak conditions in first two Government schools.
  • Teaching methods are in Nepalese Medium, except English Book in Government schools but in West Point School, Teaching Method is in English.
  • 15 permanent Teachers, fully paid by Nepal Government schools & West Point School paid their private teachers.

Duration: (Minimum 02 Days & maximum as per your choice)
You have to sign up for minimum of 02 days volunteering teaching. But if you could do more days for volunteering in School, it would always be perfect. You could sign up for 1week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 1 month or more volunteering teaching in these schools but you have to confirm your timeline of volunteering beforehand.

You will get one double/Twin Bedded or Triple bed room for your staying in volunteering and toilets are outside the room. Hot Shower will be available. 24 hours free WiFi internet also available.

Food:  You will have basic food. As it is a home stay, you would not have much choice of western food (But you could buy some noodles, spaghetti, cheese, Salads, Meat items etc., which you can buy from the shops near this Home Stay. If you wish to prepare your own food, we will provide you Private Kitchen, which is available in this Home Stay.

Breakfast:  Choice of any eggs, Tea or coffee, biscuits, Breads, Butter/Jam

Lunch/Dinner: Nepali Food Set (Dal Bhat Veg set ) - which is combine with plain rice, lentil soup, Vegetable curry, Gundruk Sadeko (Kimchi) or pickle etc. We will also provide you free popcorn & Tea.
While on Volunteering teaching in school, you will have opportunity to see how school is running, discussion about teaching difference in your country and in Nepal, interact with social peoples, teachers and school management, paying sports with school children's.

Optional/Extra Activities:
DAHACHOK is a historical place, which is situated 11 Km west from the central of Kathmandu city, Thamel. From this volunteer Home stay, you can visit to cultural villages, historical areas such as Martyr Kalu Pandey’s Cemetery, Historical Indra Daha, Hiking in the Dahachok Hill, 2100M Elevation, from where you can explore the 360 degree panoramic views of the snowcapped mountains such as Mt. Manasalu Ranges, Ganesh Himal Ranges, and Langtang etc. Our Local guide will assist you for your Day Hiking and other excursion along with this Volunteering.

Sponsoring a child

You can sponsor a child for his/ her school education. You can support by these ways.

  • If you pay USD 150, it will support a child for his/her whole one year school fees & Stationary in a Government school.
  • If you Pay USD 450, it will support a child for his/her whole one year school tuitions fee, exam fees, stationary & Sports fee (In a private school)
  • If you pay USD 1350, it will support a child for his /her whole one year tuitions fee, School dress, Exam fees, Books and other stationary, Hostel fees, All Foods (B, L, D) in a private school.
