PoonHill Trek

Poon hill trek is one of the best trek destinations in the Annapurna region that offer a scenic view of the gentle Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Machhapuchre, Himchuli and Mt. Dhaulagiri Himalayan range in a close distance from an altitude of Poon hill view tower 3210m from sea level with 180- degree aerial view. Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is also known as mini Annapurna circuit trek because if its beauty and adventure. The short, colorful and relatively easy trek, takes its place in the western part of Kathmandu into the Annapurna region, one of the best trekking destination in Nepal which attracted 60% trekker in this place.

Poon hill trekking is beginning from Nayapul after around 2 hours’ drive from Pokhara depend upon road condition. Our trekking route goes through small beautiful Gurung and Magar village of Ulleri, Ghorepani, and Ghandruk. You will be enjoyed by observing background mountain views from a village on a picture squire. Along the trail, you pass dense Rhododendron forest full of different species of birds, flora, and fauna. You can enjoy watching and listening to the sound of birds. Our final destination of that trek is the viewpoint of poon hill on an altitude of 3210m. It offers an intoxicating view of the mountain and sunrise over the snow cape mountains Mt. Dhaulagiri ranges, Annapurna south, I, II, III, IV, Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, Barasikhar, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak and Hiunchuli. When the ray of sun touches on the top of snow-capped giants Himalayan range along with a maze of other peaks, slowly begin to appear, like magic, before our eyes and you feel like you are in new paradise. If some who really love with nature, landscape and Himalayas you will make a memory of lifetime experience at trekking in Nepal.

During your trek, it is restively easy to hike approximately 4-5 hours walk with average elevation which will reduce the chances of high altitude sickness. However you will be physically fit but you have not face highly physical difficulties, it is an easy and common trail. It’s not only a hike you will encounter natural gift waterfalls, hot springs, different species of rhododendron forest, rare species of birds and animals along the trail. Poon hill trek might be a comfortable trek but with its closeness to nature, you will experience a mix of nature, cultural, serenity, and beauty that makes your trek a trip to the Shangri-La.

Accommodation :
Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking can be 5-6 days or your optional choose how long or short you want depending upon your time limited and budget. During the trip, your accommodation will be arranged depending upon your itinerary and budget. In Kathmandu and Pokhara you can have the variety of option to choose accommodation. You can choose 5-star category hotel to tourists’ standard category or budget hotel and lodges as well as a hostel and homestay was also available. But during your trek, there is only a few numbers of hotels and lodge were available. You can have no other alternative option except that. But the alternative can be camping trek. Most of the accommodation were operate by the local people so you will not expect the high quality of food and services during the trek. However the food was local product and hygienic and the accommodation were safe, they provide you minimum basic facility like Wi-Fi, charging, hot water and so on.

Best time for trek
This trek is an easy trail with beautiful views of green landscape farming field. The trekking can be easier during that time, where there is no rain and snow. So, that September to November and March to May is the best time for Poon hill Ghorepani trek. In September to November in this month monsoon is over and the sky is clear and most of the big Nepalese festivals Baijaya Dashami and Tihar were fall during at that time. In that time many people returned to their house and most of the flower was blooming in this season. The trekker can enjoy the festivals and activities during that period. In March to May, the winter season is over out the climate is moderate at that time mountains were covered full of snow some time you can get chance to play with snow. However, Ghorepani trek can be done every time during the all-around the year no need to wait for the best season because it is in low altitudes among the other trail in the Annapurna region, Langtang and Everest region.

Trek cost.

In normally the trek is done 5-6 days from Kathmandu. The 11 Days Total cost starts from 650 USD but that cost is as per the itinerary where we include below. But you have a variety of choice on that. Poon hill trek cost is determined on the number of a person in a group, level service stander and facilities where you want.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Arrived at Airport

Arrival to Tribhuwan international airport. Our staff will meet and transfer you to the hotel and trek briefing will be given at hotel. Overnight at hotel

Day 2

Full day Kathmandu city tour.

Swayambhu, pashupatinath temple, patan durbar square. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3

Drive to Pokhara from Kathmandu.

The natural city Pokhara situated 200 km west from the Capital city Kathmandu and takes 7 hours bus drive and 33-minute flight. Normally Tourist bus starts at 7:00 am from Kathmandu and follows the side of Trishuli River. Evening short walk around the city and stay at the Hotel.

Day 4

Pokhara - Tikhedhunga (1491m).

A scenic 1-hour drive from Pokhara takes us to the starting point of our trek. Crossing the suspension bridge over the Modi Khola River, we ascend slowly through terraced fields and classic mountain villages. Along the way, we will encounter mule or goat caravans carrying supplies to the mountains, heralded by the musical bells they wear. The stunning peaks of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna peaking over the green ridges will greet us from time to time as we continue up to Tikhredhunga.

Day 5

Tikhedhunga - Ghorepani (2855m).

The morning breakfasts will be provided at the Hotel where you stayed after you packed the bags you will climb around 3500 small stone steps to arrive Ulleri which takes around 2 hours slowly. The first view of Annapurna South (7219m) on Northside can be visible. Then you fallow forestry trail to Nangethanti for lunch passing thick Rhododendron forests. After Lunch here, you walk one and half hour up to arrive Ghorepani passing again Rhododendron trees.

Day 6

Sunrise at Poon Hill (3200m) – Trek to Tadapani [2650m]

It is an absolute must for those who stay at Ghorepani to make the walk up to the celebrated viewpoint of Poon Hill [3195m], which overlooks the village. Dawn is the best time to go so we arrange a wakeup call for 5 am and head up the well-marked track by torchlight. The first light of dawn illuminates Dhaulagiri and Tukuche Peak with a surreal pink glow.

Day 7

Tadapani to Ghandruk (1940 m).

A short walk today after breakfasts leads downhill via forests and [passes verikharka. Today walk will be just for 3 hours. The Gurung cultural village Ghandrung offers their traditional museum to visit in the afternoon. You will also have chances to visit the local school here. Stay overnight.

Day 8

Ghandruk- Pokhara.

From Ghandrung all the way downhill through the village and terraced fields to Syauli Bazaar. It takes approx: 2 hours. Along the way, you can see good views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare too. From Syauli Bazaar, the trails follow the Modi River till Nayapul. Our lunch spot in Birethati. After lunch you have very short treks about 20 minutes to Nayapul, catch our vehicle and drive to Pokhara.

Day 9

Pokhara city sight seen Tour

After breakfast, we've sightseeing around Pokhara valley. You're free in Pokhara Valley also called "Magic Land" or Dreamland" of Nepal, to explore the various interesting place like a boating in Fewa lake overlooking the region of Annapurna Areas, David Falls, Mahendra Cave, and some Temples.

Day 10

Drive back from Pokhara to Kathmandu

After breakfast in the morning transfer to Pokhara Bus Park or airport to Kathmandu. If you traveling by bus which takes 7 hours again on the Prithivi highway along the river and if you prefer a flight which takes only 33 minutes. Arrive Kathmandu and stay overnight at Kathmandu hotel.

Day 11

Final departure

Final departure to your onward destination with a warm goodbye.

Foot were: well broken-in, walking shoes, thick socks, light socks, camp shoes.

Clothing : down or fiber filled waterproof, jacket and trousers, sweater or fleece jacket, underwear, warm and cotton trousers or jeans, shirts and T-shirt, shorts, long underwear, wool hat, sun hat, gloves, bathing suit, track suit.

Other equipment: sleeping bag (4 seasons), trekking hold all or stash sack with lock, daypack, water bottle, sun cream, trekking sticks, sunglasses, flashlight with spare bulbs and batteries, lip salve.
